Born in Liku, Niue, John Pule moved to New Zealand with his family in 1964.

He began painting in 1987, participating in the first important exhibitions to showcase contemporary Pacific Art: Te Moemoea No Iotefa (1990) bottled ocean (1994) and Home AKL (2012).Pules work includes painting, drawing, print making, film making and performance. The topics of his work include Niuean cosmology and Christianity, as well as perspectives on migration and colonialism. His work comprises both painting on canvas and bark cloth painting, a traditional Polynesian artform.

He was a guest of professor of creative writing at the university of hawai’I in the spring 2002.

He uses bold thick, tiny, small lines, to create his art work. Different types of lines in different directions to create different shapes. to complete his work.
I like this art work because it relates to his culture and religion. and I like the way that he sets his art work out, as its not too confusing. It reminds me of a comic strip.
